Gas-To-Energy Facility

The Landfill Gas-to-Energy Plant at Dry Creek Landfill burns 1500 cubic feet of landfill gas per minute. Two 2200 horsepower 20 cylinder CAT engines, running 24 hours a day, produce enough energy to power roughly 3000 homes right here in Jackson County.

This facility produces 3.2 MW (megawatts) of renewable electricity — enough electricity to supply power to more than 3,000 homes annually. This is the equivalent of 20,000 tons of coal energy and is sold to Pacific Corp. This facility also creates Green Tags. Each Green Tag is equal to 1,000 kilowatt hours of fossil fuel energy, which we sell to the Bonneville Environmental Foundation for marketing to utility customers. The proceeds are used to fund projects such as a 400 megawatt wind farm in Washington, tidal and wave energy research on the Oregon coast, and solar energy projects near Klamath Falls. Each Green Tag prevents the release of 1000 pounds of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
